Creative Exercise: Excuse Your SpaceI’m all for creating a space that encourages deep focus and creativity. It’s important to be intentional about your preferences on light, color, ergonomics, inspiring items to have in view (and things like that one photo or book you never really liked anyways to be removed). And to freshen it up as you evolve. But it’s equally important to make sure your space limitations don’t become an excuse for not creating. Nothing will be perfect. “I can only work/create in complete solitude in a pristine environment” is a sure way to not motivate as much as you’d like. This also varies greatly depending if you share your space, live alone, have a dedicated room with a door, etc. There’s a balance between being intentional and being flexible with your space. Try these: Free write/talk/draw about what you love about your creative space, what annoys you about it, what’s in your control, what’s not - and a couple things you can do about it right away Clean it up! Rearrange! Go somewhere else! You may discover something new - or a refreshed appreciation for what you already have
